Are you really an allergy to the food o are you intolerant?

Food allergies are a response of the immune system when the patient consumes some type of food, in some patients allergies, are produced by eating very common foods such as milk, eggs, nuts, wheat, shrimp and peanuts among others. In some cases, it generates a reaction that can cause people to trigger harmful effects and reactions in the immune system that lead to food allergies.

In some people, the allergic reaction to food can be annoying or even serious. For other patients, an allergic reaction to a food can bother without seriousness.

Food allergies usually manifest themselves with signs and symptoms such as:

irritation in the mouth

Swelling in the lips, face, tongue, and throat.

Difficulty breathing.

Abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea or vomiting.

Dizziness and fainting.

It is very common that in some cases food allergies may cause anaphylaxis, this means that the patient has pressure and narrowing of the respiratory tract, inflammation in the throat and difficulty breathing.

But some patients tend to confuse allergies with intolerance by eating some of the foods mentioned above, which sometimes cause confusion and can be treated medically by error. However, allergies food share similarities, which cause effects on the body and cause ingestion.

Allergies are produced by immunological reaction something very different to intolerances which do not intervene in the immune system.

That's why if you have any questions about food allergies consult your doctor.

The procedure to know if you are allergic or not is the blood test or the oral test. These two procedures are carried out under the supervision of a specialist and have a duration of five minutes.

The treatment in the market is the injection of epinephrine. This is a medicine Epinephrine belongs to a class of drugs called alpha agonists and beta-adrenergic (sympathomimetic agents). It works by relaxing the muscles of the airways and narrowing blood vessels. It is used to treat all types of allergic reaction in patients or people.

In these moments exist some Phase I clinical trials. The treatment could help to collect the information from the clinical study and know exactly relevant information that leads them to discover the cure for this disease.

At the moment the Sean Parker Center at Stanford is conducting phase 1 studies with a specific food peanut allergies.

Peanut reactivity reduced by oral tolerance in a clinical trial (PRROTECT).
