On February 28, the community of Santa Clara County, the Breathe California of the Bay Area Association, Santa Clara Public Health, met with students, teachers, health experts, some parents and youth, to talk about the causes and consequences that young people are exposed to when they consume products such as electrical cigarettes, Hookah Pipes, Cigar and Menthol cigarettes.

This year, the associations called 40 attendees to the public event. This included experts in the field of health such as Dr. Bonnie Hlphern-Felsher, who contributed his knowledge to the community and young people about the risks they are exposed to when consuming these products.

The event counted with the family participation of some residents of the are, as well as student exhibitions, questions, and debate.

The debate was led by Susan Ellenberg, Supervisor of District 4 of the Santa Clara County, California.

The discussion panel was formed by 4 young residents of the sector, who answered questions and also spoke with other young people to prevent this consumption of tobacco and its derivatives.

Some discussion topics were the following:

1. Promote that the taxes in these articles are higher, for lower consumption of young people.

2. That the taxes collected for these consumer items are taken to create funds for health and education.

3. Do not accept promotions from manufacturing companies if you own a business.

4. No to the sale of tobacco for minors.

5. Create educational programs about tobacco use.

The community of the Santa Clara area was able to expose some problems that involve young minors and agreed to carry out prevention workshops, support and school programs to educate these young people and their families.

This event was made possible through the California Department of Public Health and the California Tobacco Control Program, which will be inviting once again different sectors of the Santa Clara community and the Bay Area. They expect to hold 3 events in the next 5 months of the current year.
